Nothing says “Summer” better than a cool, refreshing, sweet, juicy, delicious slice of ripe watermelon—no matter what time of year it is. But I often hear cautions on eating watermelon—that it is high glycemic, full of sugar, mostly water, not very nutritious, etc.

Right? Or wrong?

While watermelons are mostly water—90% or so, they are also full of vitamins A, B6, C, lycopene, antioxidants and minerals. Remember hearing about the lycopene in tomatoes? Watermelon, another red-colored fruit, is FULL of this powerful phytonutrient! In fact, watermelon has some of the highest levels of lycopene of all fruits and veggies. Just one cup of watermelon has 1 and a half times the lycopene of a large fresh tomato. And who eats just one cup of watermelon? I know I don’t!

Because watermelon is one of the best sources of lycopene with more than 6,500 micrograms in less than half a cup, you are getting an army’s worth of inflammation-fighting antioxidant activity! Lycopene from the red flesh of watermelon is very stable, even after the watermelon has been cut and stored in the refrigerator. Lycopene is thought to be even more powerful than its other orange/red colored ally, beta carotene—found in red and orange fruits and veggies.

Cardiovascular Benefits

Lycopene is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, valued for its role in protecting the cardiovascular system, bone health, and preventing cancer. Along with lycopene, watermelons contain another powerful phytochemical, citrulline, an amino acid. Citrulline gets converted into another important chemical in the body, arginine, or L-arginine. Arginine is used to create nitric oxide, which has powerful benefits on the heart and blood vessels. NO can actually cause blood vessels to relax and open up, lowering blood pressure and helping the body carry more oxygen to parts of the body where it is needed–like muscles, your heart and your brain. A study from Florida State University found that watermelon could make a significant difference in lowering blood pressure–especially in overweight people, by relaxing the blood vessel walls.

Citrulline, when it converts into arginine, can also help prevent excess accumulation of fat in fat cells, because it blocks an enzyme that stores this fat. And because citrulline is a precursor to nitric oxide, it can also help improve erectile dysfunction in men, in a similar way that Viagra works—although you would have to eat quite a bit of watermelon to get the same effect as Viagra.

As you can see in this article, watermelons are on the list of foods that beat statins for heart health!

It’s All About the Lycopene

Carotenoids are powerful antioxidants, capable of destroying free radicals which attack our bodies and can contribute to chronic disease and aging. In one study of 13,000 adult Americans, low levels of carotenoids were a key predictor of early death. Especially low blood levels of lycopene! Lycopene protects our cardiovascular system, the male reproductive system, and in the skin, it protects and prevents UV damage from the sun.

Several studies have been conducted showing the strong link between levels of lycopene and heart disease. Analyses from the Physicians Health Study showed a 39% decrease in stroke risk in men with the highest blood levels of lycopene. Another study in Finland following 1,000 men for 12 years has had similar results as well.

Lycopene is also responsible for limiting the enzyme responsible for making cholesterol, so eating foods with more lycopene also helps to reduce cholesterol—specifically, LDL cholesterol.  (Side note:  speaking of heart health, did you know that grass fed dairy fat actually contains nutrients that help unclog your arteries)

Anti-Cancer Power

Lycopene is a life-saver in more ways than one! Besides its cardiovascular benefits, lycopene’s antioxidant power extends to anti-cancer effects as well. A 2014 meta-analysis of 10 studies shows dietary lycopene to be protective against ovarian cancers, as well as brain tumors and breast tumors.

And of course, we know about lycopene’s value in fighting prostate cancer. In several studies, higher intakes of foods containing lycopene and a higher serum or plasma concentration of lycopene was associated with a very significant decreased risk of prostate cancer—especially the more lethal kind of prostate cancer. When researchers studied only the men who had had at least one high risk PSA test, the subjects had a 50% decreased risk of lethal prostate cancer.

“Based on these results, we hypothesize that the consumption of a diet rich in lycopene-containing foods reduces the aggressive potential of prostate cancer by inhibiting the neoangiogenesis that occurs in tumor development,” Dr. Giovannucci’s team reported online ahead of print in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.”

Other studies have shown lycopene’s powerful cancer fighting ability effective against lung cancer, esophageal, stomach, pancreatic, colorectal, and cervical cancers as well.

Extremely Good for Rehydration

Watermelons get their name because they are over 90% water, and that water is full of electrolytes and potassium which helps you stay hydrated or to rehydrate. The perfect fruit to eat on hot summer days, or after a hard, sweaty workout! And that delicious juice can also help prevent muscle soreness—especially if you have watermelon before your intense workout.

Its Not Just the Red Part

While most of us only eat the juicy red flesh of the watermelon, the whole thing is actually edible and chock full of nutrients! From the red center to the stem end, and also the blossom end–including the white part near the rind–are a plethora of impressive antioxidants, flavonoids, lycopene, and vitamin C. Even the green rind is full of nutrients. The rind is full of chlorophyll, and contains even more citrulline than the red flesh. Try throwing your watermelon rinds into the blender with fresh squeezed lime juice for a healthy slushy treat.

It is still best, however, to pick ripest, reddest watermelon you can find. Lycopene content continues to increase all the way up until the time the watermelon is at its reddest and ripest.

And don’t spit out those seeds, unless you are in a watermelon seed-spitting contest! The black watermelon seeds are not only edible, but actually extremely good for you. They are full of iron, zinc, fiber and protein. Seedless watermelons are ok to eat too—they are not genetically modified, only hybrid forms of watermelon bred especially for their no-seed content.

Watermelons also are rich in anti-inflammatory substances including cucurbitacin E, tripterpenoid which help to block the pain and inflammation of certain enzymes, in a similar fashion as NSAID’s like ibuprofen and aspirin.

While being very low in calories (only about 46 calories in a cup), watermelon also contains an impressive variety of other important essential nutrients including:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B6
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium

The Age Old Question—How Do You Pick the Perfect Watermelon?

It can be a huge gamble finding the perfect, red, sweet watermelon. But—if you know what to look for, there is a real method to finding the best one. Look on the underside of the watermelon for a pale, butter-colored yellow spot—not white or green. This is one of the best indicators of the ripeness of the watermelon. Also pick up a few and choose the one that is heaviest for its size. Many people ‘thump’ the watermelon to check its ripeness too—listen for the best hollow bass sound.

Be aware that watermelons do contain a reasonable quantity of fructose, so be mindful of your sugar intake, and eat watermelon in moderation.  With that said, because watermelons are so filling, and have both high water content AND high fiber content, the old myth that watermelons are high glycemic is not entirely true… This is because the “glycemic load” of a watermelon is actually fairly low since it’s nearly impossible to overeat large quantities of a food that is as filling as watermelon.

So enjoy your watermelon, knowing you’re doing your body good!  Also try my friend Danette’s watermelon & lime juice drink here!

Boost of Blood Flow

In this quick email, I'm going to show you THREE of the simplest and most important ways to boost your nitric oxide production so that you can enjoy the benefits of better heart health AND better erectile health...

1. Beets, beet juice, or beet powder

Beets contain unique phytonutrients that are proven in dozens of studies to boost nitric oxide in your body, which has a significant impact on improving blood flow, including erectile blood flow. This is why beet powder is often contained in many nitric oxide boosting supplements or drinks.

2. Raw Honey

I've talked about in past newsletters how honey is almost a "miracle sugar" in that your body processes it very differently than typical sugar. Honey has a lower impact on blood sugar and is also good for the health of your oral microbiome, whereas standard sugar isn't.

But an extra special benefit of raw honey is that it is also a nitric oxide booster and thereby increases blood flow, including erectile blood flow! 1 to 2 tbsp of raw honey a day can help nitric oxide and blood flow.

3. Sun Exposure on your Skin

Although the media would have you believe that the sun is "deadly", the reality is that the sun is the source of all life on earth.

And while excess sun exposure and frequent burning of the skin may have some relation to increased skin cancer (although eating too much omega6 fats from vegetable oil is actually a bigger cause of skin cancer), getting enough sun exposure is vitally important for vitamin D levels, immune strength, mood, serotonin levels, and dozens of other aspects of your health.

And another VERY important benefit of sun exposure on your skin without sunscreen is the production of nitric oxide in your body which improves blood flow, also improving erectile blood flow!

So if you want to improve your erections for better and more frequent sex, don't ignore beets, honey and sunshine!

 PRACTICE HONESTY

Try spending an entire day practicing honesty, that is, without going further or complicating what is simple, try spending an entire day without resorting to the subterfuge of lies to guarantee your pretensions and satisfy your desires, whether these are of any size or simple concealment of the truth.

I can guarantee you that if you dare to do this experience, you will discover how much you complicate things just by not holding on to honesty to build your life experience.

Practicing honesty, you will be surprised how much everything returns to simplicity over time, maybe not immediately, because old vices do not die overnight, nor is there a welcoming scenario in the world for souls who experience honesty.

On the contrary, the scenario of normality in the world establishes that it is acceptable for us to exist lying and hiding from ourselves (unsuccessfully, by the way) what we want and intend.

Practice honesty, because, in the medium and long term, the exercise will open your eyes to an obvious panorama, but that went unnoticed.

It's all infinitely simpler than we imagine as we continue to be sequestered by the vortex of lies.

Add Cinnamon to Coffee every Morning

Source:  https://thealternativedaily.com/add-cinnamon-to-coffee-every-morning/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=AD230905PM

For those who love to regularly kick start their morning cup of coffee with cinnamon, you’re in for some good news. And for those who don’t, here’s something to consider. Science tells us that regular consumption of cinnamon can do so much more than simply flavor coffee. In fact, when this “rockstar” of the spice world comes together with your cup of brew, together they can help prevent certain diseases like Parkinson’s, diabetes and more.

Coffee may help lower your blood sugar

In 2014, Harvard Chan School researchers found that increasing coffee consumption by more than one cup a day over a four-year period reduced type 2 diabetes risk by 11 percent. Interestingly, the same study suggested that those who decreased their coffee consumption by more than a cup a day increased their type 2 diabetes risk by 17 percent. Most importantly, the study shows that changes in coffee consumption habit can affect type 2 diabetes risk in a fairly short period of time.

How does cinnamon fit in?

For years, scientists have been studying cinnamon and its role in lowering blood glucose. In fact, cinnamon has a long history as an antidiabetic spice, but trials involving cinnamon supplementation have produced contrasting results. However, according to Paul Davis, a research nutritionist at the University of California, cinnamon does work to lower blood sugar. Davis’s meta-analysis published in the Journal of Medicinal Food concluded that cinnamon lowers fasting blood glucose. “According to our results, it’s a modest effect of about three to five percent,” suggests Davis. That may help the millions of Americans who already have diabetes, but also the millions who have elevated fasting blood-glucose levels.

Another study published in the Diabetes Journal found that cinnamon improves glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. The study concluded that taking as little as one gram of cinnamon per day reduces serum glucose. That’s less than a quarter teaspoon! So, together, cinnamon and coffee could play a serious role in lowering your blood sugar. Not to mention that cinnamon, often associated with sugary desserts, might work to trick your palate into thinking you’re actually consuming sugar when you’re not. Thus, helping you reduce your craving for sugar.

Coffee and cinnamon help prevent Parkinson’s disease

Research shows that coffee and cinnamon can improve symptoms of Parkinson's.
Research shows that coffee and cinnamon can improve symptoms of Parkinson’s.

Studies show that people who consume caffeine are less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease. But one human study published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology suggests that caffeine may even help movement symptoms for people who already have the disease. The study consisted of 61 participants who had Parkinson’s disease and showed daytime sleepiness and some motor symptoms. They were given either a placebo or enough caffeine to equal two and four cups of coffee per day.

After six weeks, the group that took the caffeine supplements averaged a five-point improvement in Parkinson’s severity ratings compared to those who didn’t consume caffeine. “Caffeine seems to block a malfunctioning brain signal in Parkinson’s disease and is so safe and inexpensive,” suggests Dr. Michael Schwarzschild of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, who wrote an accompanying editorial to the study.

Just add cinnamon

What’s interesting is that cinnamon too may help stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease, according to a study published in the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology. Cinnamon is metabolized into sodium benzoate. After eating cinnamon, sodium benzoate induces significant increases in the levels of a variety of chemicals in the brain called neurotrophic factors. These factors stimulate the new neurons in the brain and encourage the survival of pre-existing neurons. These two processes are vital for maintaining a healthy brain.

Scientists from Rush University Medical Center found that cinnamon actually reversed the biomechanical, cellular and anatomical changes that occur in the brains of mice with Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, by adding cinnamon to your coffee, you may be able to lower your chances of getting Parkinson’s disease.

Cinnamon might also improve your learning ability

Research has shown that cinnamon can turn lab rats into better learners.
Research has shown that cinnamon can turn lab rats into better learners.

Another study from neurological scientists at Rush University Medical Center found that feeding cinnamon to lab mice — thought to have poor learning ability — turned the mice into better learners. “This would be one of the safest and the easiest approaches to convert poor learners to good learners,” suggests Dr. Kalipada Pahan, the lead researcher of the study.

Some people are apparently born with good learning abilities. Others become good learners over time. And others have a hard time learning new tasks even with effort. Not much is known about the neurological processes that make one person good and the other a poor learner. But once again, the cinnamon, which metabolizes into sodium benzoate, entered the mice’s brains and stimulated the hippocampal neurons ability to change. These changes led to improved memory and learning in the mice.

Cinnamon improves digestion

Cinnamon is a carminative, meaning it is effective in relieving abdominal discomfort brought on by excess gas. It also helps gastrointestinal problems such as spasms and calms the stomach. It may even help relieve morning sickness. Additionally, if coffee gives you heartburn, then cinnamon may help relieve digestive upset by stimulating a weak digestive tract.

Ceylon or cassia?

Ceylon cinnamon is said to be the "true" cinnamon over cassia.
Ceylon cinnamon is said to be the “true” cinnamon over cassia.

The two most common types of cinnamon to North America are Ceylon cinnamon and cassia cinnamon. However, the one most commonly sold in the United States and Canada is cassia, or Chinese, cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon is considered a lower quality version of Ceylon and is, therefore, cheaper to buy. It’s also the one you’ll most likely find in the supermarket. Both are classified as cinnamon and both have beneficial properties. However, Ceylon, which is native to Sri Lanka and southern parts of India, is considered the “true cinnamon.” This makes it pricier and harder to find.

Unfortunately, (the cheaper) cassia contains coumarin, which can be toxic if consumed in large doses. In rodents, coumarin is known to cause kidney, liver and lung damage according to a study by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment. Just one to two teaspoons could bring someone over the daily limit. Ceylon, on the other hand, is far less likely to cause any health risks when consumed regularly or in larger amounts.

So, if you can get a bottle of Ceylon cinnamon, go for it! And add a little into your coffee each morning.

Farewell to Virology

'Farewell to Virology'

Dear Rui,

This is Part One of the three-part series. 'A Farewell to Virology', based on the 29,000-word essay debunking virus theory and virology, written by Dr Mark Bailey, MBChB, PGDipMSM, MHealSc.

It has yet to be contested and the purpose of this film is to explain why.

This film version walks the layperson through the paper and scientific evidence in an easy, simple and understandable way, so that they may better understand and be able to easily explain to others the great hoax of the last few centuries and certainly last three years, that fictional particles called "viruses" exist, cause illness and are reasons to lock down and destroy societies and economies and cause lifelong disease and misery through needless and useless vaccination programs. They don't.

 MERCURY'S KISS

Today is when Mercury comes closest to Earth, the culminating moment of what is popularly called retrogradation, and which, due to one of those historical mistakes that serve as a substrate for continuing to repeat the interpretations that the ancients made about stellar events, still today it is taken as a weakening of the currents of life that circulate through this planet, Mercury.

Mercury's closest approach to Earth is the moment when the two planets kiss, and if around here we can imagine that princes appear when kissing frogs, there is no reason to stop imagining that Mercury's kiss on Earth is also auspicious.

Mindlessly repeating what the ancients said does not lead to anything auspicious, but reinventing interpretations does.

But, however, avoid assuming the commitment to follow the words and footsteps of other people, trust your guts and follow your inner guidance, you will certainly find a safe compass out there to find your direction, as well as to find the best way to interpret the currents of life in which you move and experience being.

What cold water does to your body

 Source: https://thenutritionwatchdog.com/what-cold-water-does-to-your-body/?utm_source=managedlists&utm_campaign=coldwater

By: Susan Patterson

Cold water can interfere with a number of healthy bodily processes and actually be detrimental to your well-being in the following ways:

• Cold water robs you of nutrients: The body’s natural temperature is 37 degrees Celcius. When you drink something that is very cold, your body has to spend an exorbitant amount of energy to regulate your core temperature. This takes away from energy that is needed to digest food and absorb nutrients.

• It may cause a sore throat: Extremely cold water may cause respiratory mucosa to build up, resulting in increased chance of infection causing a sore throat.

• It can increase your risk of headache: According to a 2001 study, women who had experienced a migraine in the last year were twice as likely to trigger a headache by drinking cold water.

• Heads up, cold water may contain dirty ice: We recently reported that ice is often dirty, coated with bacteria and fungus. This often is true of your ice at home.

On the flipside, here are some of the amazing health benefits of drinking warm water:

Warm water provides pain relief

Forget cold water, drinking warm water can help prevent constipation.

Drinking warm or hot water has a soothing effect on the muscles of the abdomen. It can provide relief from menstrual and abdominal cramping, as well as muscle spasms.

Boosts your weight lossInstead of cold water, drink warm water to help boost your weight loss.

By drinking a cup of hot water first thing in the morning, you can jump-start your metabolism. Warm water increases body temperature and increases the rate at which your metabolism burns calories.

Prevents premature aging

Drinking warm water helps to flush compounds from the body that can accelerate aging. It also improves skin elasticity by aiding in cellular repair.

Clears nasal and throat congestion

Hot water is a wonderful natural treatment for colds. It can naturally dissolve phlegm and clear your airways. It not only clears out nasal congestion, but it also soothes sore throat symptoms as well.

Prevents constipation

Hot water can help you to maintain bowel movement regularityDehydration is a frequent cause of recurring constipation problems. Not to mention that the movement of the bowel slows down as it fills up. The hot water can finish breaking down food remnants and flush them through the intestines.

Aids your digestive process

It is believed that drinking cold water during a meal might promote hardening of oils in the food and lead to a fat deposit in the intestine. As mentioned previously, warm water boosts metabolism and aids the digestive process.

Detoxifies your body

The act of drinking hot water naturally raises the temperature of the body. As the body temperature rises it activates the process of sweating, which flushes toxins out of the body through the pores of the skin. The extra hydration also helps the function of the kidneys to flush waste material out of the body, along with toxins.

Improves your outlook

According to Dr. Michael Wald, the director of Nutritional Services at Integrated Medicine and Nutrition in Mount Kisco, New York, consuming hot water activates receptors found in the stomach, esophagus, intestines and mouth. This stimulates pleasure regions of the brain.

Maintains balance in the body

Practitioners of Chinese Medicine believe that drinking warm water that is similar to the temperature of the body maintains balance. They believe that extremes of either hot or cold throw off the body’s yin and yang. Imbalances are believed to be responsible for symptoms like chills, depression, thirst, “foggy” thinking, sleepiness, bloating and more.

Enhances blood circulation

Drinking warm water breaks down fat deposits that are present in the body and blood stream. The warmth increases the flow of blood circulation and promotes the removal of toxins. The increased circulation induces muscle relaxation, which can reduce pain.

Try warm lemon water

My favorite way to drink warm water is by adding a squeeze or two of fresh lemon juice. This is especially beneficial first thing in the morning. Lemons contain citric acid, magnesium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, pectin, calcium and limonene, which supercharge our immunity so that the body can fight infection. They also help to lower the activity of free radicals and increase the breaking down of body fat, also known as adipose tissue.

It’s unbelievable: Our own FEMA has deliberately killed hundreds of native Hawaiians and kidnapped thousands of their children as part of a calculated land grab, while White Hats and Black Hats battle it out in Maui Hawaii. The fiat US Dollar is officially defunct as 84 countries join together in a Global Currency Reset. Nazis and the Chinese Communist Party have infiltrated America and were preparing it for a Civil War, while the Mainstream Media refuses to report and actually covers up these stories of our nation’s downfall.

 CULTIVATES LIGHTNESS

With your mind full of worries, with your throat tightened by any anguish, with the short fuse of emotions making you react disproportionately to events, what perspective of wise and efficient decisions would you have? Evidently none.

If you occupy your mind and your heart in accepting things as they are, instead of stressing everything so that things are as they should be, dedicating yourself to excluding everything that deviates from this rule, certainly a greater and wiser understanding of reality will help you to build a more honest life, tolerant with your own soul and also tolerant with people you don't understand, but with whom you live anyway.

Cultivate lightness every day, do not miss even an opportunity to dedicate yourself to anchoring lightness, joy and carelessness.

Against the grain of supplying these basic needs of our humanity, the rooted lie circulates that we were born here on Earth to suffer, and you probably feel strange and even guilty for not suffering as you should, but if you persist in anchoring joy in your day to day life, then you will transcend the misunderstanding of our civilization and plant the seed of future civilization.

 TRUST IN JOY

Trust in joy, in the name of replacing all the time and energy resources invested in the trust that here on Earth we are born to suffer.

Trust in joy, no matter how long the history of your disappointments is, nor how powerful the reasons for your personal suffering are, much less value the reticence to believe in enthusiasm again, no matter how much the rug has been pulled out, trust in joy with the certainty that in any case you will continue to need it to live your life with the honesty of someone who is less concerned with the fruit of his actions than with enjoying every moment and every breath.

Trust in joy, also because the option of severe austerity to renounce the pleasures of the world, because they are sinful, has not provided you with the expected results, only with more weight on your conscience and conflicts in your relationships.

Trust in joy, because it is not by renouncing it and surrendering to the severe austerities of body and mind that you will approach the sublime, the ecstasy of being at the feet of the Divine.

Trusting joy is being honest with our deepest feelings, those that sustain children's play activity, joy for no other reason than joy itself.

 ACTIVATING “FRIDAY” MODE

This “useful” week was very short, it started later with the Empty Moon last Monday morning, and it ends faster too, because Friday starts with a Full and Empty Moon simultaneously.

Activating "fridaying" mode.

So, it's better to start this splendid exercise earlier, which is "Fridaying", and kick the bucket of obligations than to wait at the end of the afternoon, which we would probably arrive stressed for not following the guidelines of the firmament, on which our heads rest.

You see, the feet cling to the Earth, but our head leans on the sky.

The empty moon in the morning is a strong indication that, the choice being within our reach, it would be better to choose to start the well-deserved rest early today, this indeed, which should be treated without procrastination, because, moreover, our efforts to objectify and materialize would tend anyway to fall into the void.

Everything, however, is a choice in the human world, and we can choose to insist on treating this Friday as a productive day and bear the consequences, which can even be good, since nothing is predictable with the Empty Moon, but we can also choose to bet on our mental health, advancing our well-deserved weekend break.
