Several large population studies, have shown a clear link between a woman's exposure to light at night and breast cancer. A similar link has been shown with prostate cancer in men. The risk is greatly increased for:
1. Those who frequently do not go to sleep until after 1:30 a.m.
2. Those who have the brightest bedrooms.
3. Late-night shift workers (and the longer they work nights, the greater the risk).
The study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute concludes that this is the result of a chronic suppression of melatonin - an anti-cancer hormone that is produced by the body only in the dark.

Research published by the National Cancer Institute conclude that when people do not get enough sleep, or they are exposed to light when they sleep, it results in a chronic suppression of melatonin, an anti cancer hormone that is produced by the body only in dark. What they found was the risk is greatest for those who don't go to sleep until very late, especially after 1:30 a.m. in the morning, those who have any light in their bedrooms, and late night shift workers, the longer they work nights, the greater the risks. So the important thing is, how do we counter act this? We counter act this by number one following the sleep guidelines. Sleep studies have shown the number of hours of sleep ideal for health and healing in a human being is 9.5 hours, with at least 3.5 before midnight. What does that mean? It means you are in bed by between 8:00 and 9:00 and you wake up at 6:00. Now for many you will say this is unrealistic, so what I say to you is get to bed as early as you can and wake up as early as you can and start making changes even if it just thirty minutes or fifteen minutes earlier each night or when you can. The other thing is critical make sure your bedroom is dark. Do not have any lights on, any night lights, any lights at all that are perceivable and also if light comes in from the outside from the streetlights, purchase shades that have light blocking, which means they do not permit any light to come through the shade. Another important thing to affect health and healing are the7 Basic Steps to Total Health(TM):
1. Air--deep diaphragm breathing to oxygenate your body.
2. Water--drink 32 ounces of distilled water per 50/lbs per body weight per day.
3. Food--consume a diet of living/raw plant food which has the highest energy, bioelectricity, enzymes and bioavailable nutrient content to either maintain or restore your health.
4. Sleep--sleep 9.5 hours with 3.5 of them before midnight.
5. Exercise--exercise 30 minutes every day.

7. Prayer--take the time throughout your day to regularly still your mind so you can hear the voice of God spoken into your heart.
Now, if a person was on a night shift and they could not switch their job, they can still balance their health at a higher level if they do the other 6 of the 7 Basic Steps. The average American breaks most all of them, so in all these studies, we are taking typical Americans that are breaking all the steps. If you can live 6 of those 7 steps at a high level, the body will absorb that 7 steps not being ideal, so that recommendation is when you cannot sleep 9.5 hours or when you have to work a late night shift, make sure you are living the other 6 of the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health at the highest level you possibly can.

Pesticides and Parkinson's Desease

Pesticides Could Raise Parkinson's Risk

Exposure to pesticides, may boost the long-term risk for developing Parkinson's disease by 70 percent, a new study suggests.
These findings do back up earlier animal studies linking pesticide exposure to motor function abnormalities and lower levels of the brain neurotransmitter dopamine. Declines in dopamine have long been associated with Parkinson's.
"This is the first large human study that shows that exposure to pesticide is associated with a higher incidence of Parkinson's," said study lead author Dr. Alberto Ascherio, associate professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.
The researchers studied 413 participants who were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Exposed patients were twice as likely to be blue-collar workers and 14 times more likely to work as either a farmer, rancher, or fisherman.
However, the same risk of disease was found between patients who experienced exposure because of their work, such as farmers, and those who came into contact with the chemicals because of home or garden use.
The Harvard team found that, regardless of occupation, pesticide exposure boosted long-term Parkinson's risk by 70 percent over the long-term.

This study which was published in the Annals of Neurology was the first to show that exposure to pesticides may increase long term risk for developing Parkinson's Disease by 70%, and was the first large human study that showed exposure to pesticides is associated with higher incidences of Parkinson's according to lead author, Dr. Ascherio, Associate Professor of Nutrition and Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. Another interesting note in the study was exposure was 14 times more likely to be found in workers that either were farmers, ranchers or fishermen. But they stated, however, no differences were found in terms of risk increased between patients who been experienced exposure because of their work, again being farmers, or those who came in contact with chemicals because of home or garden use. That's the key, the home and garden pesticides that we are putting on our lawns and in our gardens, are weakening our immune systems and increasing the risk of all types of diseases and weakening of the immune systems in this study confirming Parkinson's Disease, but also knowing that these chemicals will increase our susceptibility to all disease, including immune suppressive diseases like cancer. What's the answer? Very simply, go natural. You can find by planting certain herbs in your garden they repel insects. Eat Less and Live Longer

The Ultimate Longevity Secrets Discovered at Last?

According to this fascinating video segment aired recently on Nova, only one in 10,000 of us will live to see 100. But scientists are working on finding ways to increase that number.

Researchers found cutting the food intake of just about any organism by up to 30-40 percent extended its life by as much as 60 percent.

Calorie restriction reduces insulin levels and triggers the production of sirtuins, which are produced as part of an intricate stress response that kicks an organism into survival mode (which beefs up DNA repair and prevents cells from dying).

Another variable that triggered the production of sirtuins and the longer lives of flies, worms and likely mice was increasing their intake of the antioxidant resveratrol.

More Evidence Vitamin D Prevents Parkinson's Disease and Cancer


In an excellent paper, a pair of researchers (father and son) presented considerable evidence that vitamin D deficiency is a cause, and possibly the major cause, of Parkinson's disease.

The researchers reviewed a 1997 case report in which a patient with Parkinson's disease steadily improved when treated daily with 4,000 IU of vitamin D.

At the same time, two new meta-analysis studies (which combine data from multiple reports) have found even more evidence that vitamin D is an important cancer-fighting tool. The first study examined nearly 1,800 records and found that:

  • People with the highest blood levels of vitamin D had the lowest risk of breast cancer
  • Those with the lowest vitamin D levels had the highest rates of breast cancer
The second study, which looked at nearly 1,500 people, showed similar results. Raising vitamin D levels (serum level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D) to 34 ng/ml reduced rates of colorectal cancer by half, while raising levels to 46ng/ml cut the risk by two-thirds.

Reduction of Alzheimer's Symptoms

Eating less reduces Alzheimer's symptoms in mice

Eating fewer calories may help prevent the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, researchers reported.

A study in mice suggests a lower-calorie diet can help trigger the production of a protein that protects the brain from the disease, said researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
In the study, the mice in one group were permitted to eat as they wanted, while the other group of mice was fed only 70 percent of that amount.
When the animals were killed six months later, researchers discovered the brains of the calorie-restricted mice held significantly higher levels of an anti-aging protein, SIRT1, the researchers reported in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
That protein has been shown to curtail and reverse the production of plaque in the brain, a typical symptom of Alzheimer's disease. Researchers have found the protein can also enhance the function of a patient's metabolism, kidneys and liver.
"The real message is that, in an animal model of Alzheimer's disease, caloric restriction led to the elevation of molecules that are associated with longevity and good health," said Dr. Giulio Pasinetti, a professor of psychiatry and neuroscience who led the study.
"This may be the reason why caloric restriction may work to prevent Alzheimer's disease."
The Mount Sinai study confirms other research that has found a relationship between what and how much people eat and risk for the disease in general.
"The same things that we know are good for your body -- particularly your vascular system -- are all part of maintaining healthy brain function," said Dr. Bill Thies, a staff pharmacologist at the Alzheimer's Association.

In this study, that was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, it showed that when mice were permitted to eat as much as they wanted, as opposed to the other group which was fed only 70% of that amount, that the animals on the calorie restricted diet had a significantly higher levels of anti aging protein called SRIT1. This protein had been shown to reverse the production of plague in the brain, which is typical in the symptoms of Alzheimer Disease. It also showed that this protein enhances the function of metabolism, kidneys and liver. This is yet another study confirming the power of calorie restriction. Not only increasing longevity, being the only proven mechanism to increase longevity, but also decreasing the formation of all disease in the body whether life threatening disease or not. Excess pounds may raise ovarian cancer risk

Being overweight in young adulthood or later in life may raise a woman's risk of ovarian cancer, particularly if she's never had children, researchers have found.

In a study of 2,110 women with and without ovarian cancer, researchers found that those who were relatively heavy, either in recent years or at the age of 18, were more likely than thinner women to develop the disease.
But the relationship between weight and ovarian cancer was strongest among women who'd never given birth. For them, cancer risk climbed in tandem with recent body mass index (BMI), a measure of weight in relation to height.
Among childless women, those who were obese in recent years had 2.5 times the risk of ovarian cancer compared with the thinnest women. The same pattern emerged when the researchers looked at the women's weight gain since age 18, according to Dr. Julia Greer and her colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
The new findings suggest that in overweight women who've had no children, the effects of excess body fat and "incessant" ovulation combine to raise the risk of ovarian cancer, according to the study authors.
The findings offer yet another reason to maintain a healthy weight throughout life. And that goes for all women, whether they've had children or not, according to Dr. Greer.
According to American Cancer Society estimates, Greer noted, at least one third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. each year are attributable to excess weight and obesity.

This study can be summarized very simply that women that were obese had 2½ times greater risk of ovarian cancer compared to the thinnest women. These findings were stated in the Journal, Cancer. The mechanism behind this is excessive body fat which can raise levels of estrogen in the body. Estrogen is a pusher driver hormone that increases cell production so this may feed ovarian tumor development. The research in the Journal, Cancer also stated that according to the American Cancer Society, estimates that at least 1/3 of all cancer deaths in the United States each year are attributable to excess of weight and obesity. This is very important. SO how do we counter act this? You don't counter act disease by focusing on disease. You do not counter act weight gain or obesity by focusing on your weight, the way you counter act all of the is by looking at the opposite. Instead of trying to get rid of the weight or the disease, the focus is 100% on getting health in body, mind and spirit. The more balanced the body is, the mind and emotions, the more the body is going to go into a natural weight for the body. And how do we do this? With the7 Basic Steps to Total Health(TM) which are:

When you live the 7 Basic Steps, day in and day out you will go to the ideal weight for your body type. So just to review, the earlier a person gets to bed and the more they sleep the more the metabolism balances and the less a person will gain weight. So a healing person is in bed between eight and nine and they are up by six. The next important factor is diet, most importantly we want to eat a living/raw plant based diet, which not only is lowest in calories but highest in nutrients for health and healing. This definitely decreases weight. Then exercise. You want to be doing 30 minutes of aerobic type or cardio vascular type exercise. Cellular exercise, rebounding cellular exercise being the best. The more they do not know what their purpose is, and are not receiving their pleasure from their purpose in life, and from their relationship with HIM who created them, the more they will seek pleasures outside and the most easily accessible pleasure for all Americans is food.

Cure AIDS with Electricity

After researching the Dr Beck Protocol for some time I have stumbled upon a super simple technique removing the need to conjure up a 3.92 52Vp-p square wave oscillator.

One of the adverts of the Dr. Beck protocol had been experimenting with a simple 6V lantern battery. Dr. Beck had known this and had nicknamed it 'The Godzilla' However Dr. Beck had recommended the 3.92 Hz Oscillation technique as it prevented electrolysis from occuring at skin contact.

This is a super simple method if one wants to apply the Beck Protocl without having to hunt down or build an oscillator. Wire 3 9-Volt Batteries in series to give 27 Volts. Add longer wires to the Red and Black lead so that the batteries leads can reach where you need them. Next dowse two standard clean rags in salt water and wire the leads to each rag. After that place one rag on the wrist, and the second rag in the palm of the hand of the same arm as the wrist. You will feel it some, depending on how much salt you put in the water, but it will 'work around' the electrolysis problem by distributing the current over a larger area of the arm. If one is interested by wiring a current meter in series one can monitor the current levels.

I just did this and monitored about 2.5 to 6 mA. I would NOT recommend you hold a rag in each hand as that current will travel through the organs and may or may not send a heart stopping pulse.

CURING VIRUSES USING SMALL ELECTRIC CURRENTS!

This week I would like to share with you something that I read about, and have consequently tested on myself as well as a number of patients who volunteered. It is how to kill the HIV virus, as well as many other viruses while they are in the blood using a simple "Black Box" device that produces a minute current using batteries. Interested? Read on, it is truly fascinating!

ELECTRICITY KILLS VIRUSES!

In a remarkable discovery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, N.Y.C. in 1990, it was shown that a minute current (50 to 100 MICRO amperes) can alter outer protein layers of HIV virus in a petri dish so as to prevent its subsequent attachment to receptor sites. (SCIENCE NEWS, March 30, 1991 page 207.) It may also reverse Epstein Barr (chronic fatigue syndrome), hepatitis, and herpes B. HIV positive users of this enclosed information may expect a NEGATIVE p24 surface antigen or PCR test (no more HIV detectable in blood) after 30 days. This is reminiscent of a well-proven cure for snakebite by application of electric current that instantly neutralizes the venom's toxicity. (LANCET, July 26, 1986, page 229.) And there may be several other as yet undiscovered or untested viruses neutralizable with this discovery.

This very simple blood clearing treatment offered great promise as a positive method for immobilizing known strains of HIV still present and contaminating some European and US blood bank reserve supplies. It was further suggested that infected human HIV carriers could be cured by removing their blood, treating it electrically and returning it by methods similar to dialysis. Dr.
Steven Kaali, MD, projected that "years of testing will be in order before such an IN VITRO (blood removed for treatment) device can be made ready for widespread use" (LONGEVITY, Dec. 1992, page 14.).

DR. ROBERT BECK

The pioneer scientist and inventor of this remarkable device is Dr. Robert C. Beck, D.Sc. (See http://www.ioa.com/~dragonfly/morebeck.html for more info). In Dr. Beck's opinion both blood and lymph can be cleared IN VIVO (which means blood isn't removed) simply, rapidly, and inexpensively with similar but NON-INVASIVE techniques. Electronic and controlled electroporation approaches may well make vaccines (even if possible someday), pharmaceuticals, supplements, oxygen and diet therapies, plus other proposed remedies obsolete, even if they worked and were free.

In a public lecture (Oct. 19, 1991) the writer's opinion proposed this theoretical do-it-yourself method for accomplishing HIV "neutralization" IN VIVO. Subsequently, his original modalities
and protocols have been extensively peer reviewed, refined, simplified and made universally affordable (under $75 for BOTH devices including batteries when self-made). These two simple treatments used in tandem can potentially nullify well over 95% (and perhaps 100%) of known HIV strains residing in BOTH blood, lymph, and other body tissue and fluids.

Following is a summary of two years of offshore feedback with this non-iatrogenic, do-it yourself, simple and inexpensive experimental solution to the ever escalating AIDS dilemma. There are no known side effects since milliampere currents are much lower than those in FDA approved TENS, CES and muscle stimulators which have been in daily use for many years. Battery replacement costs are under 25c per month per user or about 1c per day for a typical 21 day "spontaneous remission".

No doctors, pharmaceuticals, ozone, or other intervention appears necessary. The pocket-sized, battery-powered, BLOOD clearing instrument is basically a miniature relay driven by a timer chip set to ~0.67 Hertz. Its 0 to 36V user adjustable biphasic output minimizes electrode site irritation. The described system delivers stimulation through NORMALLY CIRCULATING BLOOD via electrodes placed at selected sites (such as one electrode behind ankle bone on inside of foot and another identically located on opposite foot) over the sural, popliteal, posterior tibial, or peronal arteries where the subjects' veins and arteries are accessibly close to the surface.

Using neutralization approximately 8 to 20 minutes per day for about three or four weeks should, according to Dr. Beck, effectively immobilize well over 95% of any HIV and simultaneously any other electrosensitive viruses in blood. In heavy infections, shorter application times could prevent overloading patient with toxins. Simply treat for a greater number of days.

In time, the restored immune system will handle residual problems. In the special case of impaired circulation due to diabetes, longer treatment times may be indicated. Immobilized viruses may be expelled naturally through kidneys and liver. More rapid neutralization is easily possible but not recommended because of potential excessive toxic elimination reactions. (Herxheimer's syndrome). T-cell counts may drop initially (because of lysing and subsequent scavenging by macrophages) but should recover to over 200 within 90 days.

The Toxic Air

Toxic Dust -a Health Threat


Americans are exposed to a variety of potentially dangerous chemicals in their homes from products such as computers, frying pans and shower curtains, according to a new study released.

The study, called "Sick of Dust," found 35 hazardous industrial chemicals in household dust samples from 70 homes in seven states, including Michigan and California. It was commissioned by nine environmental groups, including the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland and the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition in San Jose.

"It literally brings home the fact that hazardous chemicals are in our daily lives," said Beverly Thorpe, international director for Clean Production Action, one of the study's sponsors. "We feel now is a prime opportunity to overhaul chemical regulation in the United States."

The researchers tested the dust samples for six types of chemicals, including pesticides and flame retardants. All the chemicals are legal, but many are known to be harmful to immune, respiratory, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. They said infants and young children are especially vulnerable to exposure.

But the American Chemistry Council, which represents major chemistry companies, said that just because a substance is found in dust or in the body at low levels doesn't necessarily mean it causes health problems.

The study's backers said they decided to test dust samples in U.S. homes after seeing similar studies that found high levels of toxic chemicals in households in Europe, where lawmakers are tightening regulation of chemical production.

They said they hope the test results will help prompt state and federal legislation to curb the use of dangerous chemicals in the production of household goods, ranging from furniture and clothes to carpets and nail polish.

Researchers in Australia recently found that what you eat can directly affect your skin. It was
found that the type of foods people consumed influenced the amount of wrinkling and damage
to sun exposed skin. The individuals involved in the study were older and came from different
ethnic backgrounds.

Fewer wrinkles were found in individuals who consumed vegetables, olive oil, fish, legumes,
eggs, yogurt, nuts olives, cherries, melons, dried fruits, prunes, apples, pears, multi-grained
bread, jam, tea, and water.

The foods this study associated with more wrinkles included sugar, full fat milk, red meat,
potatoes, margarine, butter, sodas, pastries and other junk.

The bottom line is you are what you eat. There is not doubt that fruits and vegetables are good
for your body and if you needed proof that these and other whole foods are also good for your skin, well, there you have it.

The Most Common Sleep Disorder: Insufficient Sleep

SleepIn April of this year, the Institute of Medicine issued a report that confirmed definite links between sleep deprivation and increased risks of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack and stroke.

Some scientists are also investigating connections between insufficient sleep and depressed immune function.

Sleep can work to activate or inhibit hormone production in the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that gives the body signals regarding when to adjust temperature, blood pressure, digestive secretions and immune activity. Insufficient sleep also inhibits the pancreas from producing insulin, the hormone required for the digestion of glucose.

A groundbreaking 1999 study showed that after six days on only four hours of sleep, healthy volunteers would fall into a pre-diabetic state. Sleep also gives the heart a chance to slow down, and those who less than six hours a night have as much as a 66 percent greater prevalence of hypertension.

The largest study of sleep duration and mortality followed over one million participants for six years. Those who slept about seven hours had the highest survival rate, and those who slept less than 4.5 hours had the worst. Nine hours of sleep or more each night was also associated with a higher mortality risk, however.

In general, a good night's sleep seems to be as important to good health as a nutritious diet and regular exercise. Experts tend to agree that the majority of people require about eight hours of sleep each night.

However, roughly 40 percent of Americans get fewer than seven hours of sleep on weekdays, and 71 percent get fewer than eight hours of sleep. As a result, most Americans accumulate two full weeks of "sleep debt" each year. The two main causes for sleep debt were long work hours and long commutes.

One contributor to poor sleeping habits that has nothing at all to do with any other existing health problem you may have: A lengthy commute to and from a job can require a life-draining amount of time all by itself, according to recent research by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

That's only one of many sleep studies cited in this awesome Los Angeles Times article, most of which I've already posted on my Web site.

A longer commute -- navigating a maze of highways in the dark and in a car both day and night -- is only the number two reason people get less sleep, however. Spending long hours at work tops the list.

Before the study, scientists had speculated that excessive TV viewing, entertainment and computers would top the list of sleep distractions. However, what they found is, a combination of long hours on the job, a too-far commute and living in an area that forces people to drive anywhere to get anything is the deadliest of them all.

The trick is to keep your commute by car -- including all errands -- to 40 minutes or less a day. Every 8 extra minutes you spend in your car translates into a sleep debt of 15 minutes every night. And it doesn't matter if it's one long car trip or several short ones, either.

I am quite fortunate in that I only commute to my office four times a week and the round trip time is typically under 30 minutes and frequently closer to 20. I realized many years ago that I did not want to waste my time on the road.

Although nearly every minute I am in the car I am listening to an educational audio file as there is so much time to learn. If you do have a longer commute please consider your car as a "university on wheels" and a marvelous opportunity to learn important information.

If you're struggling with sleep, chances are better than good your health is fundamentally impaired. Fortunately, you can solve your sleep problem and boost your health in the process, without the need for a health-harming drug, by taking advantage of some of the practical solutions outlined in my 29 Secrets to a Good Night's Sleep, which include:

  • Avoid before-bed snacks, particularly grains and sugars. This will raise blood sugar and inhibit sleep. Later, when blood sugar drops too low (hypoglycemia), you might wake up and not be able to fall back asleep.
  • Sleep in complete darkness or as close as possible. If there is even the tiniest bit of light in the room it can disrupt your circadian rhythm and your pineal gland's production of melatonin and serotonin.
  • No TV right before bed. Even better, get the TV out of the bedroom or even out of the house, completely. It is too stimulating to the brain and it will take longer to fall asleep.
  • Wear socks to bed. Due to the fact that they have the poorest circulation, the feet often feel cold before the rest of the body. A study has shown that wearing socks reduces night wakings
  • Get to bed as early as possible. Our systems, particularly the adrenals, do a majority of their recharging or recovering during the hours of 11PM and 1AM.
  • Keep the temperature in the bedroom no higher than 70 degrees F. Many people keep their homes and particularly the upstairs bedrooms too hot.
  • Eat a high-protein snack several hours before bed. This can provide the L-tryptophan need to produce melatonin and serotonin.

Here's a good tip on how to keep the inside of your shoes
fresh, clean, and the sort of covering you don't mind
putting your feet into.

Rub the inside of your shoes with cotton wool that you've
soaked in medical alcohol, which is, of course, available
in drug stores everywhere.

Another technique that works involves dusting the inside
of your shoes with baking soda. This not only helps to
absorb moisture, but it also knocks that stinky ole shoe
odor down many notches.

Background

As far back as the early nineteenth century, hydrogen peroxide was widely used in medicine. Many bacterial diseases, including syphilis, responded to H2O2 when no other treatment was effective. In the early twentieth century H2O2 was used to treat several common diseases, such as typhoid fever, cholera, ulcers, asthma, whooping cough, and tuberculosis. (11)

Hydrogen peroxide's ability to kill bacteria in the human body has been well documented (1, 13, 17), and a 1922 medical textbook describes the use of hydrogen peroxide orally, by intravenous injection, and for topical use. (14) However, as the pharmaceutical industry began to develop powerful new (and high-priced) drugs, hydrogen peroxide was increasingly ignored and finally discarded as a treatment.

Early Supporters

Several fascinating personalities have been involved in the struggle to gain recognition in the U.S. of hydrogen peroxide as a therapeutic agent again. Dr. Edward Rosenow (1875-1966), a physician and research scientist associated with the Mayo Clinic for over forty years, discovered that hydrogen peroxide was the safe, effective antimicrobial, antiviral agent he had spent years looking for. Unfortunately, he died without seeing his discovery become widely accepted.

However, his friend Father Wilhelm, a Catholic priest and chemistry teacher, made a commitment to publicize the wonderful benefits of hydrogen peroxide. In the 1970s he presented Rosenow's research to several large pharmaceutical companies, only to get the same response every time: Rosenow's work on hydrogen peroxide was very interesting and potentially important, but hydrogen peroxide was an inexpensive substance that could not be patented and had no commercial value.

Walter Grotz was the next player in the hydrogen peroxide story. After a 1965 auto accident, Grotz developed arthritis that was so bad he could hardly walk. In the winter of 1982, after retiring as postmaster in Delano, Minnesota, his wife convinced him that a warm Caribbean cruise might lessen his arthritic pain. As fate would have it, the chaplain on their cruise ship was Father Wilhelm. When Father Wilhelm learned that Wally (as he is affectionately called) had arthritis, the good Father began preaching his "peroxide sermon."

Wally began taking small amounts of hydrogen peroxide orally, and within a few months his arthritis pain was totally gone. Walter became as committed as Father Wilhelm, and the two of them have now dedicated their lives to spreading the word about the potential health benefits of hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen Peroxide in Nature

When ozone mixes with moisture in the air, it forms hydrogen peroxide, which comes down in rain and snow. It occurs naturally in fresh fruits and vegetables, some coming from rain and some manufactured during photosynthesis. (6) Hydrogen peroxide is also found in mother's milk, with an especially high concentration in colostrum (the first milk secreted, right after birth).

One researcher states, "The generation of H2O2 in cellular processes seems to be purposeful, and H2O2 cannot be dismissed as a mere undesirable by-product.... The capacity for generation of H202 is now found to be widespread in a variety of organisms and in the organelles of the cells." (12)

The Chemistry of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a very simple compound, with the chemical I formula H2O2 Essentially it is a molecule of water with an extra atom of oxygen attached, occurring throughout nature and produced by almost every cell in the human body.

Most people are familiar with the common drugstore variety of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide, used for everything from sterilizing a cut to cleaning kitchen countertops. Hydrogen peroxide's sterilizing power comes from its extra oxygen atom. Hydrogen peroxide has a similar oxidizing, or cleansing, power in the body. However, the drugstore variety of H2O2 should never be used internally, because of the chemicals it contains as stabilizers.

Free Radicals

In the 1950s Dr. Denham Harman developed the free-radical theory of aging. Free radicals are molecules that have a chemically active oxygen atom attached to them. Free radicals can damage cells, causing aging and cancer. (15)

At first it seemed that extra oxygen was always damaging, and that the antioxidants were the good guys, responsible for anti-aging protection. Now it appears that not all free-radical reactions are bad. For instance, oxygen helps cleansing enzymes remove toxins, and it is used by the immune system to attack invading bacteria. (4) Also, hydrogen peroxide stimulates natural killer (NK) cells, which attack cancer cells as these attempt to spread throughout the body. (8)

Oxygen and Cancer

Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize for his discovery that cancer cells have different metabolic properties than normal cells. (16) Healthy cells are aerobic; they use oxygen in most of their chemical reactions. Cancer cells have reverted to a more primitive metabolic process, called fermentation which is anaerobic, or without oxygen. This means that cancer cells thrive in a low-oxygen environment.

The main energy source for both normal and cancer cells is glucose. However, a cancer cell's anaerobic processing of glucose yields only one fifteenth the energy per glucose molecule, compared with normal cellular metabolism. This is why cancer cells have such a huge appetite for sugar (glucose).

Mechanism of Action

One possible way in which intravenous hydrogen peroxide can treat cancer is by releasing pure oxygen in the body. By saturating the cells and tissues with oxygen, hydrogen peroxide promotes healthy, oxygen-based metabolism.

Dr. Charles Farr discovered that intravenous hydrogen peroxide stimulates oxidative enzymes in the body, which help to clear out toxins. (5) He found that intravenous H2O2 infusions almost doubled the metabolic rate. These changes may account in part for the observed benefits from H2O2 infusions.

It is important to note that H2O2 apparently does not produce free-radical lipid peroxidation, but instead stimulates important detoxifying oxidative enzyme systems. This is the direct opposite of what might be expected.

Many people, including myself, initially reacted negatively to the idea of taking hydrogen peroxide internally. How could something that produces free radicals possibly have a therapeutic benefit? However, the damage from free radicals comes from chronic exposure to free-radical oxygen, which is part of more complex molecules. The processes of oxygenation and stimulation of the oxidative enzymes may account for the positive effects of hydrogen peroxide that have been observed.

Clinical Studies

In the 1950s Dr. Reginald Holman tested H2O2 on rats implanted with Walker 256 adenocarcinoma tumors. Their drinking water was replaced by a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide. The optimal concentration was reported to be 0.45 percent, and complete disappearance of the tumors was reported to exist from fifteen to sixty days. (9)

In 1982 Winifred Wirth reported on the effective use of oral H2O2 in the treatment of laboratory mice infected with Ehrlich carcinoma. Effectiveness was judged by the decrease in mortality and the delayed onset of palpable tumor incidence. (18)

The 20 Facts About Death You Need to Know

DeathAbout 100 billion people have died since humans first walked the earth. The practice of burying the dead may date back 350,000 years.

This fascinating article in Discover takes a look at some information about death you might not have been aware of, including the fact that no American has died of old age since 1951 (when the government eliminated that classification on death certificates).

One fact of particular interest to readers of this newsletter is that 80 percent of people in the United States die in a hospital.

If you have been reading this newsletter for any length of time you know that merely the routine activity of conventional medicine can be enough to harm or kill you if you're not careful, so I'm not terribly surprised by the statistic revealing that 80 percent of Americans die in a hospital.

Here are a couple more pertinent medical-related factoids from the article:

  • Vultures in India are dying due to residues of the anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac (better known as Voltaren) that they ingest when they eat dead cattle carcasses.
  • More New York City residents die from suicide than are murdered.

Here are a few more facts, not from the article:

Death rate actually decreases when doctors go on strike, and deaths blamed on mistakes made with prescription drugs sold at pharmacies spike at the beginning of each month. Meanwhile, wild variations in health care quality lead to:

  • 42,000-79,000 avoidable deaths
  • 66.5 million avoidable sick days
  • $1.8 billion in additional medical care costs

The sad tragedy is that the conventional medical paradigm is fatally flawed. The United States is spending $2 trillion every year for a system that is based on disease management focused on drugs and surgery that fail to address the underlying cause of disease.

Additionally, clever manipulation of the official government death rates conceals the fact that the conventional medical system, not heart disease or cancer, is the leading cause of death in this country. Yet, in all fairness, physicians themselves are not the primary reason, as they are under the pernicious influence of the multi-billion-dollar marketing umbrella of the drug companies.

Our return on the massive investment in health care is profoundly poor. The bottom line is that the system is crumbling before our eyes. The very economic stability of the United States is threatened by this abuse. The good news is that the expense and misery can be powerful motivating factors to change.
